About

Elena Hyde is an artist from the North Shore of Oahu. Art has been an integral part of her life and has defined much of her growing years. She attended Brigham Young University–Hawaii and graduated in April 2025 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Illustration. Her love of art and creation has led her to explore many different art mediums. From watercolor, oil paint, and ceramics, she loves anything that she can get her hands on. Her work often portrays themes and concepts of storytelling, animals, and legends from around the world. Her work has been exhibited at Brigham Young University–Hawaii, and at the various art galleries in Utah.

Artist Statement

I am a multi-disciplinary artist from the islands of Hawaii. I create illustrations, ceramic pieces and paintings of stories, nature, and people that are often whimsical and light hearted. I use elements that are inspired from cultures and perspectives that I have been surrounded by growing up in Hawaii. The richness and variety of legends and myths from around the world are a major inspiration for me. As I gain more context from different cultures and people, that new knowledge and perspective influences my visual language. Ideas and images that are in my head are captured as I immerse myself in the creative process. Through my process I take elements from those past stories, and myths and bring them into a contemporary light. It becomes my way of sharing what is important to me.
